Licensure Requirements
If you do not have a nursing license in a compact state, you’ll need to apply for an Arkansas nursing license by endorsement to practice nursing within the state.
To obtain an Arkansas nursing license by endorsement, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Must create an Arkansas Nurse Portal account. You can find video instructions on how to do this here.
- Submit an ASBN application, along with required fees and a valid social security number.
- Verify your nursing license either through Nursys® or via license verification form, which must be submitted to the Arkansas Board of Nursing directly through your original state licensing agency.
- You must submit to a background check and follow the state’s criminal background check directions carefully.
While waiting for your licensure application to be approved, you can apply for a temporary permit to practice nursing in the meantime. This one-time permit is available to any nurse that holds an unencumbered active license from another jurisdiction. Once the permit is issued, you will need to verify it through the Nursys® website.
