For the latest up-to-date information on licensure requirements and fees, visit the Michigan Board of Nursing website or contact the Michigan Board of Nursing licensing division at (517) 241-0199.
Licensure Requirements
Since Arizona is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), you will need to get a license by endorsement.
To receive licensure by endorsement in Michigan, you’ll need to:
- Complete the online application by visiting www.michigan.gov/miplus.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Complete the Good Moral Character Questionnaire.
- Complete training to identify victims of human trafficking.
- Provide a valid U.S. social security number.
- Provide verification of licensure. This must be submitted directly to the Michigan Board of Nursing by the licensing agency of any state of the United States or province of Canada in which you hold or ever held a license. Verification can be emailed to bpldata@michigan.gov or mailed to the Bureau of Professional Licensing, PO Box 30670, Lansing, MI.
- Exhibit English language proficiency. An individual applying for licensure must demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language. This may be established if the applicant’s required health professional educational program was taught in English, OR a transcript establishes the applicant earned not less than 60 college-level credits from an English-speaking graduate or undergraduate school, OR the applicant obtained a passing score on an approved English proficiency exam as established by the department under R 338.7002b(2) of the Public Health Code – General Rules.
- Complete Implicit Bias Training. This includes the completion of 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding the issuance of the license or registration.
- Provide proof of professional education, including the name of the school attended and name of the educational program completed.
Since Michigan does not accept paper applications, all information must be filed electronically.
Michigan is not currently allowing requests for verification through Nursys®.
It typically takes 4-6 weeks to receive your Michigan nursing license.
The Michigan board of nursing may grant a nonrenewable, temporary license that is valid for 180 days. The applicant must submit an application for a temporary permit, along with a fee of $125.00.
Don’t let these requirements stress you out! Our team at Trusted Nurse Staffing will help you through it all. And to top it off, we’ll even reimburse you for any out-of-state licensing fees.
