Missouri Licensure Information and Requirements
For the latest up-to-date information on licensure requirements and fees, visit the Missouri Board of Nursing website or contact the Missouri Board of Nursing licensing division at (573) 751-0681.
Licensure Requirements
Since Missouri is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), you will not need a Missouri nursing license to practice travel nursing in this state if you have a valid license for another Compact state.
If you don’t have a nursing license in a compact state, you’ll need to apply for a license. As a travel nurse, one of your best options for obtaining a license to practice nursing in Missouri is to apply for a temporary license, which is valid for six months. You may only be issued one temporary permit in your lifetime. This is provided at no cost as a courtesy.
To receive a Missouri nursing license by endorsement, you’ll need to:
- Send a notarized application to the Missouri Board of Nursing.
- Pay the application fee.
- Provide evidence of US citizenship by submitting a COPY of one of the following:
- U.S. Birth Certificate
- U.S. Passport
- Permanent Resident Card
- Unexpired Visa
- I-94
- I-20
- Official documents showing your lawful presence in the United States
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Submit verification of your current nursing license. The Missouri Board of Nursing permits licensure verification through Nursys®. If your original state of licensure does not participate in Nursys®, you will need to contact the Board of Nursing in that state.
- Provide your official final transcripts from your nursing school.
It generally takes 2 weeks to receive your Missouri nursing license.
While all this may seem like a lot of boxes to check off, your Trusted Nurse Staffing recruiter will help you every step of the way — and we will even reimburse your application fee.

- Application fee: $105
- Background check: $40 (approximate cost)
