Why Should You Consider Becoming a Travel Nurse in Oklahoma?
When the U.S. government opened nearly 2 million acres of settlement land in 1889 many people flocked to central Oklahoma, but those that had settled before this time were dubbed “Sooners” — hence why Oklahoma is known as The Sooner State.
Centered around the geographical and cultural crossroads of the United States, Oklahoma offers landscapes ranging from golden prairies, rolling grass hills, and many lakes and rivers. But the true charm of this great state can be found in the small towns, many of which are steeped in history and tradition.
Located in the Wichita Mountains, Medicine Park was originally intended as a resort community, and tourists are still drawn to the cobblestone streets and gardens of this little gem, and we can agree that it’s worth a visit. You can also visit the quaint town of Ada located in Pontotoc County. Known for theater and shopping excursions, Ada is a perfect place to live or take a weekend getaway.
If it’s nature you seek, then Oklahoma is a veritable playground for the outdoor adventurist. Beavers Bend State Park is where you can explore rivers of cascading waters that can be explored by canoe or even in tubes. Or visit the Grand Lake Area where 1300 miles of shoreline offer an opportunity to engage in watersports or simply slow down and enjoy the views. There’s nothing like stargazing in the Black Mesa Area where you’ll find Oklahoma’s highest peak that overlooks the tri-state area.
Looking for something a little off the beaten path? Oklahoma is home to some weird and wonderful attractions, as well.
Check out these hidden gems:
- Gandini’s Circus is an abandoned circus tucked in the woods of suburban Oklahoma City.
- The Oklahoma City Underground is a colorful passageway hidden beneath the city
- 30 tons of bronze makeup The Praying Hands of Tulsa.
- The Wichita Mountains are where the buffalo roam free thanks to a breeding program that saved the species from extinction.
- Rumored to be haunted, the Parallel Forest boasts 16 acres of red cedars planted by the government.
- If you’re in need of a cure, check out the naturally formed Healing Stone of Skiatook.
If it’s a thrilling adventure you seek, then you may want to treat yourself to a season’s pass at one of the two Six Flags theme parks located in Oklahoma. Or perhaps you prefer a more holistic approach to your adrenaline fix, in which case you’ll want to check out the many amazing opportunities to rock-climb, spelunk, and sky-dive throughout the beautiful state of Oklahoma.
Whatever your speed, there’s no shortage of things to do in Oklahoma. And what’s even better is that Oklahoma is a great spot for travel nursing. With medical facilities all over the state offering a variety of positions, you’re sure to find something that suits you in The Sooner State.
