For the most up-to-date information on licensure requirements and fees, visit the Wisconsin Board of Nursing website or call them at (608) 266-2112.
Since Wisconsin has enacted the Nurse Licensure Compact, you won’t need to get a state-specific nursing license to work there if you already have a multistate license in another compact state.
If your primary license is in a non-compact state, you are required to apply for licensure by endorsement. To complete this process, you must:
If the license(s) are able to be verified through Nursys®, you should not need a temporary permit. If the initial exam state or current state of licensure does not participate in Nursys®, this adds to processing times so you should apply for a temporary permit, which is valid for three months.
The application fee for licensure by endorsement in Wisconsin can be up to $82. A temporary license has a fee of $10.
Wisconsin has been part of the Nurse Licensure Compact since January 19, 2018.
Wisconsin is not a walk-through state.
Continuing education courses are not required of Wisconsin RNs and LPNs at this time.

Let’s face — it when most people hear the word “Wisconsin,” the first thought that pops into their head is “cheese.” They don’t call Wisconsin “America’s Dairyland” for nothing! Cheese lovers can spend days tasting their way through the state’s various family-owned cheese farms and small-town markets. The Carr Valley Cheese Company and Clock Shadow Creamery are popular travel destinations for dairy lovers.
In Wisconsin, you can become an honorary “Cheesehead” by cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Enjoy football games at Lambeau Field and don’t forget to buy a cheesehead hat for the ultimate Wisconsin experience.
Wisconsin is also known for its incredible museums. Spend a day at attractions like the Circus World Museum in Baraboo or the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.
